Be looking for a progress report from your student this week. This report will account for all work to date, citizenship and comments. Feel free to email me with questions concerning your student. I have enjoyed working with them this year.

News Flash!!!!
Feel free to email me at the school address as it will forward it to my other address and I can check school email from anywhere in the world (as long as I can get on the internet). So, what are the addresses? bobarii@ccspoway.com or bobarii@cox.net If your email is secure, and your student cannot access it, email is the best way to reach me without scheduling an appointment or stopping by briefly after school. I will respond the same day, or night, and we can keep in touch easily this way.

6th Grade Bible
We are still examining Noah and the people of the time and the stand he made for God even when it was only his family that trusted his belief in God. Students will also be introduced to the cross-reference and margin notes and how to use them to deepen a study of God's Word. It is my hope that our continual study of God's Word is developing an interest in regular, personal study from your child.

6th Grade Science
Only one parent has volunteered to drive on a future JPL field trip. I will schedule a date and put it on the school calendar. It is my hope, that we can get enough drivers for the trip.

Chapter 2 is finished and chapter 3 begins. We will be looking at the Sun, a medium sized star, destined to burn out....long after our bones are dust, unless the Lord decides to take us home sooner. I have some fascinating videos about our home star.

7th Grade Life Science
Deposits for Catalina Island are due this week. Please send in an $80.00 check and have your student give it to me first, so I can enter your payment and forward it to Nancy. I must submit the contract this week. I still need one mom to go. If you are interested, please let me know as soon as possible so God can help me select those who will come with us on a trip of a lifetime!

Outlines for the taxonomic research paper are due Tuesday. The outline should be a transfer from the note cards. The 4 page, double spaced project is detailed in the Science Lab Notebook and class time has been given to field questions. Mrs. Goosman will also be working with students in language arts. The paper is due the 17th of this month.

The insect projects are in and most look great! I hope your student found it enjoyable to collect these insects. Several students have collected a blood sucking cone-nose aka kissing bug. These pests are a health hazard and should be irradicated from your home and yard. Please come talk to me if you have any concerns. I will be talking with all students about this pest this week and have a sample insect if you want to see what it looks like.

8th Grade Physical Science
We continue learning about electricity. Fascinating videos about lightning will be veiwed and there will be several labs this week as students explore the nature of travelling electrons. Electricity is fun, engaging and without it, our lives would be one filled with manual labor. You wouldn't be checking out this website without electricity either! Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings with a single bound? You bet! Electricity is all this and more.

Well, the luau was fun and a great way to start the year. If you student missed it, they missed a great party! Ask anyone in attendance and check out some of the pictures. Hope to see you all for the next one in October.

6th Grade Bible
We continue on memorizing more of Ephesians 1:7-8. I know that I have been challenging your child's understanding of Scripture in every day we meet. They constantly comment about the way I relate Scripture to life. It is my belief that this is the only way to examine them. God speaks to us through His Word. As we examine Noah this week, we will be examining the heart of man and how easy it is to be distracted and walk away from God, and His faithfulness to those who continue to revere Him in spite of what others say and do. It will be another great life application.

6th Grade Earth Science
I mentioned to the class that I would like to take them on a field trip to JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory) some time in the next few months. If you would be willing to drive, please let me know if there is a better day for you to take time away from work. I am leaning toward either a Wednesday or Friday.

We continue to explore the objects of deep space and will have a test on Friday. I will be handing out a study guide as there is a great deal of information in this chapter. Your student should have already read the chapter and taken notes or worked on the review questions (which ever will be of greatest benefit for them).

7th Grade Life Science
The insect projects are due this Friday. It is my hope that most of the work was done over the last weekend and that final touches will occur during the week. The goal of the project is to get students to use the method provided in the worksheet to categorize the insects by class, label them according to the worksheet, and present them in a neat, catagorical fashion. The number of insects should exceed ten and there is a prize for the most orders and insects collected and presented by students.

The research paper is underway and, several (more than 5) references are required. A trip to the library may help, along with a few web sites as well. There will be some class time allowed as this paper has very specific parameters. Mrs. Goosman will also be working with students on style and format of the paper.

8th Grade
Has finished the heat unit, but will continually revisit it as it will be found as an integral part of many in many of the following chapters. Travelling electrons are next, yes we move on to electricity. There will be some fun labs and interesting learning as we uncover the mystery. How does it work? What exactly is it? How can it move so fast? The adventure continues!
