I am sorry that I was not able to update the web page due to server issues at the host. This is the first time I have had trouble. Hopefully it is fixed now.

Wow! The weeks are pressing on and September is almost gone. I am always amazed at how quickly time passes! Student elections are done and all the students who ran had well prepared, quality speeches this year. In my mind, they were all winners and had a winning attitude. Congratulations to all!

I am looking forward to our first Middle School event, the luau this Friday and hope your child is too! The cost is $5.00 and includes dinner. It will be the first of what we hope will be many successful events providing our student body with opportunities to build relationships and have fun! I hope to see everyone there!

School pictures are done and proofs need to be returned with selections by this Wednesday the 25th, even if you do not choose to order. Be careful to notice that there is a $5.00 charge if this is not attended to.

6th Grade Bible
There will be a test on Friday and it will cover the memory verse, Ephesians 1: 3-6. They should also know what it means to be redeemed, what it means to be blessed, what was the result of the fall of man, what Christlike choices they can make, what it means to be adopted, what the purpose is for living, how God helps his people, what a refuge is, the difference between religion and relationship, what it means to walk with God, how their heart reflects their relationship with God. Whew! We have had a great time discussing these things in class, have you discussed them with your child?

6th Grade Earth Science
This week, we will be learning about the tools scientist use to observe the heavens and some of the history behind astronomy. We will also be exploring and learning about the stars and the latest information. In addition to the text, students will be exposed to the web with some great sites for finding out the latest information from JPL, NASA and other space facilities like the Hubble Space Telescope. Exploring God's creation and the variety of objects in space is fascinating. The test for this chapter will occur in early October. Your student should be reading the entire chapter several times and possibly taking notes from it that correlate to what we talk about in class.

7th Grade Life Science
It was, in some ways, surprising that with an open note test, students performed relatively poorly. However, when I asked if anyone had studied, the few that raised their hands, had the best scores. Even with the best of notes, if you do not know where to find the information within them, it will prove futile. Therefore, study remains important!

While students are busy collecting insects (six legged, exoskeletal creatures with three body parts), we are about to embark on a linguistic project as well; a research paper. While opportunity will be given to work on it in class, students will be required to do SOME internet research using a specific web site, and gather books an magazines about an animal of their choice. There is a specific format for the paper so please look in the Science Lab Notebook for the information within them. Mrs. Goosman will also be helping as they will learn about citing and bibliography methodology.

If you missed the Catalina Island meeting Friday, please make a point to see me and talk to me about the trip. I have information concerning chapperones, cost ($345.00), and date (Feb. 17-21, 2003). Please don't let your student miss out on this event, it will be very memorable and build teamwork and friendships.

8th Grade Physical Science
Physical Science students will continue to learn about heat, how it moves, where it will all end up, how it is measured, how it can be harnessed to do work and many more amazing things as we uncover this amazing phenomena. It moves like God himself, invisible, able to travel through any medium, and is found in everything, everwhere! The scriptures themselves say that God is light and all light has a thermal component. Isn't that hot?!

There will be a test this Friday on Chapter 16. Students are learning about the electromagnetic spectrum so that they will understand what they are collecting when they run the radio antenna for JPL.
