What an incredible year this has been! I have seen tremendous growth in every young heart here at Cornerstone! I hope you too have seen growth and a rise to the challenge of excellence. Hard work reaps the reward of self-confidence and esteem. Every person who gives their all, receives commendation and praise for their efforts. Thank you to you parents too, who have partnered with me to expect excellence as well. I could not do my job well without your support from home.

We are starting to learn about and examine rocks and minerals. Students will be asked to collect various samples of rock and bring them in for a class rock collection. This is done so that each will not be overburdened with having to collect a bunch of rocks. Rather, our class rock collection will reflect the varieties of rock found around the community and others as you travel about. Keep reminding your student to find rocks that we don't already have in our collection.

The Catalina Trip is almost upon us! All money is due by the 15th of this month. Also, I could use the help of another mom to join us on the trip as one mom had to cancel. Please consider joining us. I promise, it will be fun. Let me know if you would like to come with us!
Yet another dissection will occur this week as we examine bone and cartilage and extend this knowledge into vertebrate biology. I hope your student is enjoying the year of exploration!

The cost for Magic Mountain will be $20.50 for each ticket. Please forward a check or money to me so I can purchase tickets for the 24th of May. Parents, also let me know if you are planning to attend so I can schedule student transportation and order a ticket for you as well.
The simple machine project is due Friday and you just need to look at the handout to understand the nature of the project. It is not meant to be overwhelming, but simple, fun and creative. It is definitely NOT meant to be a parent project as you can tell by the handout as well. This is a project where failure (documented of course) will increase the grade as long as the project is ultimately successful. I always appreciate student creativity and innovative thinking through these projects.
